There is usually a calling on our lives this time of year to get rid of the old and ring in the new. That obviously looks different to all of us but it usually means changing our behaviors in some way.
This is where the battle of the wills comes into play between what we want long term and what we want right now. We have definitely become a society of instant gratification even though we want better for ourselves in the long run and understand the consequences of our choices.
What is in our unconscious that is preventing us from moving forward and having what we want in life? Or…what are we afraid of ultimately?
There is a perceived danger in change unbeknownst to us. We like what we know and have a false sense of security in that which is why we don’t take the necessary steps to change. “Better the devil you know than the one that you don’t.” It is going to feel uncomfortable because it is out of our normal behavior until we create enough tracks in our brain and create an emotion associated with it.
We cannot do it on our willpower alone. We have to understand the unconscious reasons that drive our behaviors and start at the root of the issue and not deal with only what is on the surface. That is why it is always easier to solve other people’s issues because it is so obvious and seems so rational on how and what should change…but the unconscious is not rational. It does however lack the ability to differentiate between what is real and what isn’t which means you can tell it whatever you want it to create in your life.
So here are some questions to contemplate this coming year:
At the end of our lives, what will we want to have accomplished and who will we want to have impacted?
Are we willing to live from commitment not emotions?
Are we willing to deal with the pain of discipline rather than the pain of regret?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson
Have an Amazing and Happy New Year and we look forward to helping you!!
